Learning Style, Social sharing style & Steering Style

Been a while since I did a fully original post (Creation) without inspiration (curation)... In the same genre as my FLABR theory

I’ve taught a friend recently how to blog for a passionate hobby - reviewing Television shows he loves watching. The output is Telly Tirade that he's launching in the next few weeks before Christmas.

It made me realize, how you utilize social media will be determined by what skills you naturally have and your natural learning style.

Are you predominantly a :

Visual (spatial):You prefer using pictures, images, and spatial understanding
Aural (auditory-musical): You prefer using sound and music.
Verbal (linguistic): You prefer using words, both in speech and writing.
Physical (kinesthetic)

It is possible to naturally be skilled at more than one of these, but it’s the combination of techniques that work best for you determines how you utilize social media, what platform and how much you enjoy it whether it’s for commercial or personal use.

I’m a verbal and physical learner predominantly because I need to read, write things down physically in a diary.  I enjoy blogging involving writing, typing, editing, proofreading and publishing online.  I also adore taking photos with text commentary and hashtagging.

However as much as I like sharing YouTube videos and Podcasts, I wouldn’t enjoy talking on video, camera or podcast  On the other hand,  creating a PowerPoint for Slideshare is much more enjoyable.

Instagram, Pinterest, Flickr and Unsplash = Visual (spatial):You prefer using pictures, images, and spatial understanding
SoundCloud, YouTube, Vimeo = Aural (auditory-musical): You prefer using sound and music.
Blogger, Wordpress, Twitter = Verbal (linguistic): You prefer using words, both in speech and writing.
Physical (kinesthetic)

Then you also have what I like to call your Steering style - Logical, Social and Solitary as mentioned here.  This will determine how you will utilize a social network and the tasks relevant to it.

  1. Logical: The people who prefer using logic, reasoning, and “systems” to explain or understand concepts. They aim to understand the reasons behind the learning, and have a good ability to understand the bigger picture.
  2. Social: These people are the ones who enjoy learning in groups or with other people, and aim to work with others as much as possible.
  3. Solitary: The solitary learner prefers to learn alone and through self-study.
Logical will mean things that you need to talk out loud with someone else or on a YouTube channel as a duo,  Social is something you do in a group like a selfie photo, and Solitary (like blogging for example) is something you do alone.
First determine your learning style, that will determine what social networks and utilities you will enjoy,. And then apply your Steering Style.
  1. Learning Style - what type of learner are you
  2. Social Sharing Style  - what social media platforms will you enjoy using with what skills as your strengths
  3. Steering Style - in what environment do you perform at your best when you need to steer social media content?

I hope that helps you as much as it helped me whilst learning.

Thank you,

Praz aka Prashant
