In Person: CALL ME TED by Bill Burke

Purpose of IN PERSON is to provide insights from biographies into the key traits of successful business personnel, actors, actresses, directors & politicians.

From the insightful biography CALL ME TED I learnt:

1) Page 229 - “..but I always believed that television is such a powerful medium that broadcasters have a responsibility to air programs that featured positive role models”

2) Page 290 - “The show did well on our networks, but most importantly, it really did teach kids a lot of valuable lessons.  Today, when I speak to a younger, college-age audiences, I ask them to raise their hands if they watched CAPTAIN PLANET and I’m amazed that so many hands go up”

One of the most memorable cartoons of my childhood growing up. The lyrics were very well written and harkened to real issues.

3) Page 77 - “...I did our best to raise children with good manners and the proper respect for their elders and each other.  We taught them the importance  of honesty, integrity, and hard work”

4) Page 273 - “My connection to nature goes back to my early childhood when I spent hours outdoors….”

5) Page 273 - “The time I spend in nature refreshes and recharges me and reminds me how much raw beauty exists in the world - and how careful should be to preserve it”

6) Page 210 - “After this eye-opening trip I flew home with a whole new desire to understand more about other cultures and political systems and to do what I could to increase communication and dialogue between nations”

An enlightening read, Ted's views on creating cinema with better role models, the rise of information & advertising billboards, his natural affiliation towards nature, his views on the media and Television including the rise of CNN, as well as  his views on co-operation and getting along with nations provides an educational read.

In the recent REMARKABLE READING section here, I highlighted  - "Universality, and the advancement of common good were two of the internet's founding principles" (Epilogue, Page 221), then what would one call call the founding principles of Television?
